About Survive Five

Consider the need. More than one half of all child deaths in developing countries are due to just five communicable diseases and malnutrition. These five preventable threats are the causes of 10.5 million deaths among children under five in developing countries (1999). Malnutrition is a common link in these diseases and it increases the likelihood of child illness. The overall goal of Survive Five is to improve the survival and growth of all boys and girls under the age of five by enhancing access to basic health and nutrition requirements. This will be done by:

  • Improved quality of diet for children under five and their families
  • Improved access to essential health services and a healthy environment
  • Improved household nutrition and food security
